League Rules and Rules of Play
- This is recreational soccer for men over thirty/women over twenty-five, and it will be treated just like the youth recreational league. In cases of discipline, or where no other rule has been stated, FYSA rules will be employed where applicable. Only paid, properly registered players may participate. Allowing unregistered and or under-age players to participate will be considered a serious offense and will be dealt with accordingly by the Brandon Adult Soccer League Commissioners.
- The teams will be drawn for each season and balanced based on player ability.
- A team may not elect to wear another color than the one assigned. Jerseys are league provided and MUST be worn by all rostered players. Shin guards are also required. Jewelry is to be removed prior to game time. Failure to comply with uniform requirements will result in removal from the game until uniform meets requirements.
- Games will be governed by the latest edition of FIFA Laws of the Game with the following exceptions:
- Games will be played on an U-12 size field using U-12 size goals, unless arranged by the league commissioners due to field maintenance, etc.
- Opposing teams must have equal ratios of males and females, with a minimum of 3 females including the goalie on the field, with all players having equal playtime. If there are subs on the sidelines from your team’s roster, all players are expected to sub out equally.
- Substitutions may be made on any game stoppage, with referee acknowledgement.
- A team may use rostered players from other teams with the following restrictions:
- You may “recruit “as many guest players (registered players from our sub list get preference over players from other teams) as you wish up to your team’s roster limit of 11 players. Managers should consider their team’s desire to have playing time prior to making a decision to add players, and the limits explained in rule 4D regarding #1 rated players must be considered.
- You must notify the opposing team’s manager of your guest players. Pinnies or sub jerseys must be worn by guest players at all times.
- Teams will share the available guest players when there is a shortage of rostered players.
- Male guest players must be of equal or greater numerical rating to the player they are replacing (in other words, a 2 rated player can either be replaced with a 2, 3, or 4 rated player, not with a 1.) NOTE: League commissioners have the final say on the rating of players. Exceptions to the male substitution rule:
- If a team is assigned only 1 #1 male player on their roster, a #2 player can be replaced with a #1. No more than 2 #1 male players per side are allowed to participate in any game.
- When replacing a #4 or #5 male player, a # 3 may be used, due to a lack of #4 and #5 players.
- A female up to two numerical rating lower can replace a male player. (Example: a #1 female can replace a #3 male but is not to be considered one of the 3 females on the field and would be part of the male sub rotation.)
- Female guest players may be of equal numerical rating or 1 rating lower than the player they are replacing, but an effort should first be made to replace with a player of the same skill level.
- Guest players will have equal play time to rostered players.
- For safety’s sake, pregnant players are not allowed. Women who become pregnant during the season will be expected to resign for the remainder of the season.
- Games will consist of two forty minute halves separated by a halftime of five minutes. Games will start on time or will be shorted playtime.
- While any team is ahead by three or more goals, the men of that team may not score, unless by a header. An indirect free kick will be awarded to the opposing team for an obvious shot taken by a man when his team is ahead by three or more goals.
- The offside law will be enforced solely at the discretion of the referees; however, obvious cherry-picking will not be tolerated.
- No scoring on direct kicks EXCEPT for corner kicks.
- If a player receives a yellow card, they are to take an automatic 5 minute time-out, even if there is no player to replace them and their team must play short. If there is a sub, they are allowed to replace the carded player.
- There will be no sliding tackles and no rough play.
- Players will remain courteous at all times. Disagreements are to be resolved by the referee and his/her decision will not be questioned. Players who are discourteous or use profanities on the field will be asked to leave the game.
- Players who show a pattern of disregard for other individuals or for the league rules will be ousted from the league. No refunds of monies paid will be given.
- Referee decisions are final! Remember, this is a recreational league and we are playing for fun! Any problems which you feel are inadequately handled by the referee should be brought by the team manager to the league administrators (Karen Drago or Jennifer and Karry Shepherd) after the game.
